More than a decade later, Syrian army forces entered the Daraa Balad area south of the city of Daraa under a Russian-brokered ceasefire agreement. Deraa, the first point of protest in Syria, has been under government control since 2018, but the Deraa Balad area in the south was controlled by opposition forces.
